Our purpose

Australians for Sustainable Development (AfSD) is an alliance of community groups, environment organisations, local government and business groups seeking reform of NSW planning laws to benefit and improve local communities.

We promote independent and transparent development processes, superior architecture and town planning, and ecologically sustainable design outcomes for major NSW developments that are either residential or commercial.

The alliance is campaigning for the NSW Planning Department to focus on strategic planning of the state’s residential, commercial and infrastructure needs.

The alliance campaigns for a return of planning controls to local government and local communities, at the same time pushing for a reversal on some of the worst planning decisions made in NSW.

We believe this should occur through a centralised independent planning commission.

The central focus of our campaigning is currently the Barangaroo development on Sydnbey harbour as this is the biggest urban development currently underway in Australia and exhibits some of the worst planning decisions made in recent years.
